The Asia Pacific Regional Development Foundation (APRDF) was established in May 2005. The purpose of this charitable trust is to promote, advance and develop educational opportunities within the Asian Pacific Region including New Zealand, China, South East Asia, the Pacific Islands and Australia. In order to achieve the purposes, the Foundation seek, accept and receive subscriptions, donations, subsidies, grants, endowments, gifts, legacies, loans, and bequests and monies to establish, promote, foster educational facilities, community programmes and other activities. It provides funding for the building, development and refurbishment of education facilities and establishes scholarships to enable financially disadvantaged students to complete their studies.
Since its inception, the Foundation has sponsored a number of projects aiming at equality of educational opportunities. International College of Auckland (ICA) has been involved in the following APRDF projects: The University of Auckland PhD Scholarship in Plant Science, New Zealand Horticulture Scholarship, and The Applied Management Scholarship. The Applied Management Scholarship has been jointly established by ICA, APRDF and several other institutions and government departments. It is open to students with excellent academic achievements from worldwide. The academic criterion of the scholarship is set by ICA. APRDF makes final decisions on the scholarship allocations for the proportion of the fund contributed by the Foundation itself. In October 2008, the APRDF opened its office in China. The current Chairman of APRDF China is Mr. Thomas Fu.
