It's just an idea at the moment but it has got people talking at the Waitakere city Council.
City Mayor Mr. Bob Harvey is pushing forward for this idea as he thinks it will be great for our city. The area has the highest percentage of Chinese people per head of population of any town centre in New Zealand.
"Chinatowns"are a huge draw card for all cities over the world.
These cultural towns become a hub, not only for the local Chinese but for tourists and local New Zealander's as a way of mixing, embracing and sharing the cultures.
New Lynn is well poised to become a key destination in the greater region.
New Lynn is already a great place to settle as it caters for many ethnic groups as well as having a shopping Mall, train station, Bus Depot, Community centre and of course The International College of Auckland.
Waitakere's Chinese sister city "Ningbo" has offered to help design and build the traditional gates.
