In order to enhance the traditional friendship between China and New Zealand and contribute to the education of agricultural technology of both countries, upon friendly discussion and consultation, International College of Auckland (ICA) and Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) have decided to collaboratively develop modern agricultural training programmes and reached a framework agreement in Fuzhou, China in 19 July 2007.
According to the framework agreement, based on the principle of “sincerity, equality, mutual benefit, and mutual preference”, FAAS shall promote ICA’s accredited qualification education and vocational training programmes in Fujian and neighbouring provinces. The programmes include Certificate in Academic English, National Certificate in Horticulture, Diploma in Horticulture, New Zealand Diploma in Business.
It is agreed by the two parties that, according to the requirement of China’s New Rural Area Construction policy and the available resources of New Zealand, ICA and FAAS shall jointly develop medium and short term international training programmes such as agricultural project management, management of agricultural business, management of agricultural logistics, agricultural product processing, management of sustainable agriculture, and food security and food safety.
It is also agreed that, if there is a demand, ICA and FAAS shall jointly organize exchanging activities of science, technology and culture. The examples of such activities include the Mini-Universities for youth education in the areas of life sciences and environmental conservation, and the short-term training and study tour for the human resources from agricultural administrations and/or enterprises.
The agreement was signed by ICA Assistant Principal Mr. Bill Zhang and FAAS Deputy President Dr. Bo Liu and witnessed by Dr. Ziqi Wang, Director of FAAS Training Centre, and Dr. Huiyong Zheng, Deputy Director of FAAS Training Centre.
