Aim of course:
NZDipBus is a nationally recognized, broad based business qualification which enables students to acquire subject knowledge and learn to apply this knowledge in practical situations. NZDipBus will qualify students for entry in a wide range of business careers.
Outcomes:
A graduate of the New Zealand Diploma in Business will in a range of diverse and changing organisational settings, effectively be able to add value by applying specific business skills , apply a range of interpersonal and communication skills, apply critical problem solving skills with initiative and judgment, recognise ethical and cultural issues inherent in decision making , work independently and within teams of diverse people and have appropriate skills, research abilities and knowledge to pursue further study and professional development .
Entry requirements:
• Students less than 20 years old must have:
- a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level one or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework
fifty credits at level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level two or higher in English or Te reo Māori; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards or equivalent to both the above.
• International students where English is a second language must also have an IELTS score of 6.0 (academic) with no individual band lower than 5.5 or equivalent.
Course Details:
Length of Course: 80 weeks including holidays
Class Timings: Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm
Course Structure:
NZDipBus (level 6) is awarded when students have:
* achieved 240 credits of which 80 credits are at level 6
* completed six of the seven core prescriptions
* completed no more than 60 credits at level four.
The NZDipBus Level 6 Version 2 course may consist of the following papers:
1) 400 Accounting Principles: Understand financial statements and reports and
skills for analysis and interpretation of business performance for sole traders and
small companies
2) 510 Introduction to Commercial Law
Demonstrate knowledge of commercial law to enable application of legal reasoning
3) 520 The Economic Environment: Apply elements of economic theory to
contemporary issues.
4) 530 Organisation and Management: Understand the factors that influence
management and the organization.
5) 541 Fundamentals of Marketing: Have a working knowledge of fundamental
marketing concepts relevant to contemporary organisations
6) 550 Business Computing: Understand, discuss, evaluate and apply information
technology to meet business requirements.
7) 560 Business Communication: Apply communication knowledge and skills in
the evolving context of New Zealand and global business
8) 601 Financial Accounting: Apply the regulatory and technical aspects of financial
accounting and external reporting for companies and evaluate financial and non-
financial information
9) 602 Management Accounting: Collect, interpret, present and use relevant
management accounting information for an organization to effectively plan,
control and make appropriate decisions regarding business operations
10) 603 Business Finance: Apply financial management knowledge and skills to a
small or medium size business for decision-making purposes.
11) 620 Managerial Economics: Apply economic principles for managerial decision-
making.
12) 630 Leadership: Understand concepts and apply principles of leadership. Create a
personal plan to develop leadership capabilities.
13) 632 Operations Management: Students will understand functions of operations
Management and apply techniques to ensure efficient and effective production of
goods and services.
14) 642 Marketing Research: Conduct marketing research in order to develop and
assess marketing strategies.
15) 648 Marketing Planning and Control: Produce an operational marketing plan for a
market or business of interest.
16) 650 Applied Computing: Use software applications in developing computer-based
solutions for business problems.
