Aims of the Course
The National Certificate in
Horticulture (level 4) is designed to provide students with a sound, practical
knowledge of the Horticulture Industry of New Zealand.
Student Outcomes
Students completing the course will:
· Understand the various sectors of the horticulture
industry
· Gain practical skills required for various
horticultural workplaces
· Understand the various sectors of NZ’s
Horticultural Industry
· Gain knowledge required for employment in
NZ’s Horticulture industry
· Understand the employment requirements for
working in Horticulture
Entry Requirements
International
students over 18 years should have IELTS score of 5.0 with no less than 5.0 in
individual bands or the completion the ICA internal placement test.

Graduation with the
National Certificate in Horticulture prepares a student for employment at an
entry level in a variety of Horticultural sectors:

Course Structure
To gain the National Certificate in
Horticulture students need to gain 140 credits from units on the NZQA
framework. 70 credits need to be at or above level 4. These credits will be
forwarded to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, who awards the
certificate.
The
teaching will be through a mixture of theory teaching and practical learning
using a range of learning methods; such as: projects, open and closed book
assessments, fieldtrips, on site
practical work, practical assessments (eg communications etc) and presentations.
The
balance of theory to practical learning is approximately 40/60.
