Aim of course:
To build upon the knowledge, understandings and skills developed in NZDipBus and NZIM Diploma in Management Advanced Level 6 in a chosen specialist area.
Outcomes:
Students will gain in depth business skills and knowledge that build upon the foundation of level 6 business qualifications
Entry requirements:
• 18 years and over
• have gained New Zealand Diploma in Business Level 6 or National Diploma in Business level 6 or their equivalent
• International students for whom English is a second language must also have an IELTS score of 6.0 (academic) with no individual band lower than 5.5 or equivalent

Length of course: 46 weeks including holidays
Class days: Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm
Course Structure:
The Diploma in Business Level is 120 credits. The course consists of 4 optional papers selected from any one of the 3 modules and 2 compulsory papers. To be awarded the Diploma in Business Level 7, students should achieve 120 credits of which at least 80 credits are at level 7. The 2 compulsory papers are 791 Contemporary Business Issues and 792 Research Methods in Business. Besides this the student has to do 4 other papers from one of the 3 modules

2. Business Computing and Technology
3. Accounting and Finance
We offer only one module at any given time. Due to small numbers in the class room, we make the option of which module is offered and choose the papers that are useful in the NZ job environment. Besides the 2 compulsory papers we are presently offering Marketing and Management module - Market Research, Advanced Market Research, Operation Management and Advanced Operations Management as the students find this more useful in the job market.
Compulsory papers:
791 Contemporary business issues: Students will analyse contemporary business issues and produce literature reviews of refereed articles relating to each issue.
792 Research methods for business: Students will compare and contrast a range of qualitative and quantitative methods in a business setting and produce an investigative report.
Marketing and Management:
630 Leadership: Students will understand concepts and apply principles of leadership. Students will create a personal plan to develop leadership capabilities.
631 Strategic planning for small business: Students will develop a strategic plan for a small business in New Zealand.
632 Operations management: Students will understand functions of operations management and apply techniques to ensure efficient and effective production of goods and services.
636 Applied Management: Students will apply management concepts.
642 Marketing research: Students will conduct marketing research to develop and assess marketing strategies.
648 Marketing planning and control: Students will produce an operational marketing plan for a market or business of interest.
731 Advanced Strategic planning for small business: Students will use a variety of tools and strategies for planning in a small business environment.
732 Advanced Operations Management: Students gain the knowledge to more effectively manage their operations and thus make a valuable contribution towards the success of their business.
742 Advanced Marketing Research: Students will analyse a variety of research tools used in marketing research and design a tool for a specified purpose.

650 Applied computing: Students will use software applications in developing computer-based solutions for business problems.
652 Systems development project: Students will demonstrate understanding of information systems and their effective management, and use information methodologies to enhance business processes and contribute to achievement of organization goals.
655 Information systems management: Students will demonstrate understanding of information systems and their effective management, and use information methodologies to enhance business processes and contribute to achievement of organization goals.
751 E-Commerce: Students will demonstrate understanding of e-commerce systems and their effective design and management.
752 Website Development: Students will demonstrate understanding of web technologies and their effective development and management.
753 Computer Networks: Students will demonstrate understanding of computer networks and their effective installation, administration and configuration.
754 Database development: Students will demonstrate understanding of database design and development.
Accounting and Finance
601 Financial accounting: Students will apply the regulatory and technical aspects of financial accounting and external reporting for companies and evaluate financial and non-financial information.
602 Management accounting: Students will collect, interpret, present and use relevant management accounting information for an organization to effectively plan, control and make appropriate decisions regarding business operations.
603 Business finance: Students will apply financial management knowledge and skills to a small or medium size business for decision-making purposes.
605 Internal Auditing: Students will understand the role of internal auditing in the corporate governance framework.
606 Taxation: Students will apply knowledge of taxation rules to New Zealand taxable entities in a range of situations.
701 Advanced Financial Accounting: Students will examine advanced level financial accounting and reporting issues with a New Zealand perspective while also being cognizant of contemporary international focuses and solutions/developments.
702 Advanced Management Accounting: Students will construct and implement appropriate management control systems for an organization. Students will know how management accounting can contribute to the generation of value by providing relevant information in relation to: Planning future strategies, tactics and operations; Optimising the use of the resources; Measuring and evaluating performance; Reducing the subjectivity in the managerial decision making process
703 Advanced Business Finance: Students will intensively examine selected aspects of corporate financial theory and empirical evidence, as well as their application to corporate financial decisions and the implications for problem solving; consider the practical aspects of corporate
financial management, capital markets and long term financial strategy, with the objective of making corporate decisions more effectively with the focus of creating value for the firm.
706 Advanced Taxation: Students will apply knowledge of taxation rules to New Zealand taxable entities in a range of situations.
Career Opportunities:
Graduates of the Diploma in Business Level 7 will have the knowledge and skills to enter careers such as accountancy, banking, business computing, management, marketing and tourism.
