Purpose
People who achieve this qualification have the ability to undertake a wide range of horticultural tasks at an advanced tradesperson level, with extensive operational knowledge and skill in one or more sectors of the horticulture industry.
All trainees for this qualification must specialise in at least one sector of the industry, and achieve one strand of the qualification.To increase skills and knowledge, and their employment opportunities, many trainees may choose to work and train in two sectors or more of the industry, and achieve two strands or more of the qualification.
The elective structure of the qualification allows trainees, providers and employers the flexibility to personalise programmes to meet individual skill needs that reflect the diverse roles in the horticulture industry.
Requirements
- National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4)140 credits
- Employment in one of the recognised Horticulture strands.
To achieve the Advanced Certificate the trainee needs to achieve 210 credits on the NZQA framework
- Minimum of 100 credits at Level 4 or above
- 20 credits from Pest Management
- 70 credits from the domain sector i.e. fruit, nursery etc
Timeframe
This will depend on several factors:
·the number of credits they have on enrolling in the Advanced certificate
·the industry sector they are working in
·the time of year that they start
·previous horticulture experience
It is expected to take no less than 9 months, but could take 2 years.
